Spam Filters

Spam is unsolicited email, the equivalent of junk mail or nuisance telephone calls. It is sent out in bulk to individuals who have not consented to receive it.

A Spam Filter is used to block spam emails before they are sent to your inbox. The user creates an ‘allow’ list of acceptable email addresses which the filter will use to help determine if an email is spam. Often the user can see a list of the unknown email addresses in order to verify if the address should be tagged as spam. The spam filter will divert the spam email to a junk folder, delete the email, or bounce the email back to the spammer.
